The “Family Advancement” Program

About the Program:

The Family Advancement Program provides families with one-on-one mentorship from a professional family mentor over the course of a year and a half. This mentor works closely with the family to facilitate meaningful change. Families are accepted into the program based on criteria set by the Ministry of Social Services.

Once accepted, families meet weekly with their mentor for the entire duration of the program. The goal is to help families achieve independence in all aspects of their lives by building confidence and equipping them with the physical, mental, and emotional resources needed to overcome future challenges.

The program emphasizes setting a series of small, attainable goals to foster a sense of success and build confidence in the family’s abilities, creating positive experiences along the way. According to their individual needs, families receive psychological or couples therapy, financial advice, and assistance in accessing eligible government benefits. Founded in 2014, the Family Advancement Program has been actively supporting families ever since.
